We have been coming to Playa del Carmen for about 4 years. We tried the all-inclusive hotels, and they were great, but nothing beat the experience of renting a home in Phase 1. We had so much fun on vacation we decided to buy Casa Vista. We hope you enjoy the house and have a great family vacation. Below are some things you might be interested in. This is not an endorsement and we are not paid for this! We just have found some stuff that as a family we have enjoyed and we want you to have a great time on vacation at Casa Vista, really! Real Estate If you like it as much as we do and want to buy a place to stay in or as an investment, Rob and Michele Kinnon can help. Originally from NY, these guys have their hands on the pulse of the market. www.buyplaya.com If for some reason Casa Vista is not for you, make sure you check out our exclusive rental agent’s website. They are great folks, easy to deal with and represent properties in all sizes and price ranges. www.bricinternational.com Need more information about building a home in Playa, call the guy that built Casa Vista – Chris Rauton. Originally from South Carolina, Chris has been living in Playa for more than 6 years and understands the needs of his American customers and how to get it done in Mexico. www.american-development.com Golf Golf is gaining momentum in and around Playa. Here are a few courses that we have played. We have used cancun.com to book and it was fine, but for the best prices we think you can go directly to the hotel website. Playacar Palace This course is in Playacar Phase 2, just a 5-minute drive. It is very close, but to get there by car you need to exit Phase 1 and go into Phase 2. We have not played since they reconstructed 9 holes and did some maintenance. It is well reviewed and we liked it when we played it. It is a quality resort course. Great combination of convenience and good prices. Renting the house gets you a discounted rate. The website is slow to load! www.palaceresorts.com/Golf/PlayaGolf/playa_Golfphotos.asp Mayakoba About 10 miles from the house, this Greg Norman-designed course hosts a tour event. We have played several times and it is a beautiful resort course (although it is expensive). Our tip — book an early tee time. Our last 2 rounds, finishing in only 4 hours, may be an anomaly. www.shark.com/gngcd/mayakoba www.fairmont.com Iberostar This is a new course at the Iberostar at Playa Paraiso. This is a well-run hotel that we have stayed in and is located about 15 miles from the house. It is easy to get to and we liked the PB Dye-designed course. Again, book the early tee times. As a bonus, the price of golf includes snacks from the cart at this all-inclusive course. www.iberostar.com Tours and Sightseeing We have been on a bunch of tours, but here is the best adventure tour in our opinion. Well-run, great hosts. We just took some friends from home and they had a great time. Bric can easily help you set up anything that you want to do, including transportation and full tours. Here is the tour that we like the best. www.alltournative.com Here are the basics and some websites for things to do and places to go when you are in Playa. A big destination park with all of the touristy stuff to do. Is it a little touristy? Yes, but the kids have a great time. www.xcaret.com A little bit of a drive, but Chichén Itzá is a spectacular historical look at the great Mayan culture. We have been to Egypt and this is every bit as compelling, tough to do on your own with the driving and as it is a long hot day, a tour might be your best bet. Lots of websites with general information. Good day trip with a Key West vibe is the Isle Mujeres. http://www.isla-mujeres.net/tourism/home.htm General Playa Information As you will see, there are many websites for Playa with a lot of offers for all kinds of stuff. We have never used any of them, but we send people to these for general information. We have always had the most success booking a home through Bric or dealing directly with a hotel. But here are 3 references. www.playa.info www.playadelcarmen.com www.locogringo.com |
